Halle received a new book for Christmas, "You are Special" by Max Lucado. We have been reading it every night since Christmas and it has been a blessing to us.
It's about a village of wooden people who spend each day handing out stickers, either stars or dots. Stars if they do something wonderful, look especially beautiful, or excel in something. Then they give dots if you look rough, scratched, are unable to do the think the other do, say dumb things, etc. Punicello becomes covered in the gray dots.
Until one day, Punicello meets Lucia, a wooden Wemmick in which the stickers don't stick. It's then that he is introduced to Eli, his maker.
This story becomes one about Gods beautiful love for us. That he made us, and we are special. He loves us and never wants the words of others to "Stick".
Every night I read this story, I am reminded of how true this story is every day of our lives. If we are looking to the applause of men, we become covered in stars, and the more stars we receive, we can become inclined to want more!
The same is true with the dots, if we allow others bad words, thoughts and actions to stick with us, we can lose sight of how special we are. That God made us and he has a purpose for us. Our purpose is not to be the best at something, to be the prettiest, to be flawless. Our purpose is to love him, love others and share his great love for them.
Thank God that the "stickers" don't stick if we are seeking him and not the opinions of others.
If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it for your kiddos! It's quickly become one of our favorites!❤️
